Middle Tennessee State vs. San Diego State pick
With so much of the country experiencing very cold temperatures, Middle Tennessee State and San Diego State get to avoid it all since they’re in Honolulu for the EasyPost Hawai’i Bowl.
Even though both teams come into this game at 7-5, BetMGM Sportsbook favors SDSU by 6.5 points. The Aztecs probably are the better team, but because of their playing style Middle Tennessee is the play here.
San Diego State is more than comfortable playing an ugly, defensive game. It has won games by the scores of 17-14, 16-14 and 14-10 this season and clearly does not care about style points. Think of them as the Iowa Football of the Group of Five.
Middle Tennessee State is a good team in its own right, too. The Blue Raiders won their last three games of the regular season and went down to South Florida and smoked the Miami Hurricanes early in the season.
If you’re betting the moneyline, the Aztecs might be the play, but it’s hard to see them winning by seven points — if they win at all.
MTSU vs. SDSU pick: MTSU +6.5
